With Japan representing an increasingly important market for MKS, MKS needed to double-byte enable their Implementer product for the IBM System i platform. Conventional single-byte code pages of 255 characters are inadequate to store the thousands of characters that double byte character set languages require, and special double-byte and Unicode code pages generally allocate two bytes to each character. Only applications that have been double-byte or Unicode enabled can display and process double-byte data effectively.

Because of its experience and successful track record in providing Double-Byte Character Set (DBCS) enablement services for companies such as Andersen Consulting and Genelco Software Solutions (now IBM Global Services), MKS contacted Interpro Translation Solutions in order to engage them for the DBCS enablement of MKS Implementer, their Application Lifecycle Management solution for the IBM System i.

MKS and Interpro worked closely together to identify the key Implementer features requiring DBCS enablement and corresponding source code to be modified. Using proprietary technology, Interpro was able to automate much of the DBCS enablement, reducing the cost and time to market for MKS. The project was completed on time and within the budget established by Interpro and MKS.
